While working as a painter during undergraduate studies at Western Michigan University, I explored several mediums and methods for applying paint to canvas.Throughout my studies, I weaved in and out of abstract and portrait painting. I've experimented with a variety of tools for working the paint. One of the techniques used is called "impasto" to create movement and direction within the medium. A sculpted, bold, and vibrant surface on the canvas is one of the aesthetic qualities that I appreciate from the finished product. My intentions in painting include the continual exploration and evaluation of various subject matter and methods used by classical and contemporary painters. Mimicking others lends an external perspective to art-making, allowing the painter a role as non-attached participant with the act of painting. The role allows for maximum experimentation and flexibility in the media. Through self-discovery with non-attached, observational painting, I attempt to achieve uncoventional art-making processes and unique works of art. Exhibitions:
